The most exciting season ever in major league baseball was 1998 when Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa both chased after Babe Ruth’s record of sixty home runs in a single season. No one knew who would come out on top throughout the season, but in the end Mark ended up with 72 and Sammy with 66. Every baseball fan in America thought of these two guys as heroes, but the sad truth was that both of them had been cheating by using steroids. Steroids are a drug that will help increase your testosterone levels which makes for better all-around performance. Steroids were developed in the 1930’s when the drug was invented to treat Hypogonadism in which the testes don’t produce enough testosterone for normal growth and development. Steroids were first tested on laboratory animals, and when scientist found out that steroids could facilitate the growth of skeletal muscle that’s when many athletes such as body builders and weight lifters began using this harmful drug. Many d ifferent great athletes have used steroids like Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Little did any of these athletes know that steroids can have many harmful effects on your body. Men and women both suffer from the side effects of steroids, but not always in the same way.
